Sustainable findings September

Eggshell lamps

What should we do with all left over eggshells? Lamps ofcourse. Hongkong based design studio Yellow Dot have made these intriguing lamps out of egg.

CD cover fun

The Good Plastic Company have made a new recycled material made of CD cases. Super fun. What to do with your old ”Absolute Music 1992” CD? Return it to Good Plastic and they will make panels. You can add colour or keep is clear. Matte or glossy.

Design museum in Stockholm

Can you build a sustainable museum? Somehow Swedish Architectural and Design Museum (ArkDes) have tried.

During a year they closed and made inventory to see what spare materials were there from previous exhibitions. The new layout is fully made of recycled and upcycled materials. Displays, tables, podiums etc are all made of old disguarded materials from previous years. Everything is reused – except the curtains and wheels on tables.

Innovative use of biomaterial.

Design studio Crafting Plastics have their own biobased material called Nuatan.

The studio took the material and used 3D printing for stackable stools. All fully biodegradable.

Christmas is coming…

IKEA launched their Christmas and winter collection. It is fun to see how they move to more waste and upcylce materials. The wood pieces is made of wood waste from production of sofas. In the collection are also napkins made of leftovers from bedlinnen (and still 40% lyocell).

Ashes to ashes

During London Design Festival we found Rosy Napper. They make products out of recycled ash. The material ReCinder is discarded ceramic waste and white ash. Works perfectly for lamps and lighting because it is translucent. Rosy Napper also make glaze out of food waste from restaurants for new plates.

Mindblowing

Mindcraft is the Danish platform for innovative design and craft. They opened their new exhibition on September 27 and will stay open for a month.

From a sustainable perspective I am intrigued by the chairs from Lærke Ryom. Thy chairs talk about upholstery. Can you make something without glue? Also build in a function so that you can repair and recycle.

The first chair is with zippers and the second with bows.
