Isn’t it colourful and lovely? At Salone Satellite during the Milan design week now in 2024, I came across this designer that is making materials for tables and stools. And it is all made of egg shells and nuts. Super lovely. By Shell Homage.
Like a brick
Also at the Milan design week. This time at Alcova. Aurelien Veyrat makes these sidetables or stools by reclaimed bricks. Aurelien explained to me that he buys these bricks on second hand markets and uses the whole brick. Gorgeous as art or furniture.
Shine a light
Danish brand Rosendahl is producing this rechargable lamp for both indoor and outdoor use. It is called Soft Spot Solar and designed by Maria Berntsen. New for this season is that the material is all sustainable. All is GRS-certified materials.
My love is an oyster
We have seen materials made of oysters before. Now in a Swedish context. Anna Hörling and Herrljunga Terrazzo. Organisation SPOK is matching designers and producers in a new innovative way. And the result here looks good.

Levi’s and Vitra have been working with Dutch studio The Visionary Lab. Old vintage furniture have been updated with waste textiles from Levi’s denim factories in Europe. All under coordination from The Visionary Lab. Here a Panton chair in knitted covering in blue. Looooove.
IKEA
IKEA is constantly trying to push limits. During Spring a new collection called Växelbruk is out. The fabric is made from recycled uniforms.
Social sustainability
Swedish super established premium store Svenskt Tenn invited people of colour and different backgrounds to show their things at the fancy store. The creative design studio The Ninevites unique rugs with bold, geometric patterns, inspired by traditional South African basketry, pottery, murals, and beading. At the weaving mill in the Western Cape, local women hand-spin and dye raw wool and mohair before hand-weaving the tactile rugs based on the Ninevites’ designs.
