Sustainable findings summer

Candy made of textile waste

What should we do with all textile waste? Design student from Central Saint Martins in the UK, made a project together with Haeckels where the cellulose from plantbased fibers turned into candy. Eat your waste. By Jinhang Li.

Run and set seeds

Another interesting design project from a student in the UK is from Kiki Grammatopolous. She made shoes with a chunky base. This is supposed to help spreading seeds. Our cities are focused on monoculture in this is endorsing biodiversity. Read more here.

Graphic design

What should graphic design look like when it comes to sustainable brands? This design got a bit attention during summer. It is a vintage looking aesthetics for a sustainable store called Måll in Finland. Nice.

Smashing fashion

US based brand Rentrayage mainly focus on fashion but also dables in interior design. They take deadstock textiles and use for instance for napkins.

Most sustainable companies

International magazine Time did something unique this summer. For the first time they have analyzed what companies are the most sustainable ones. Interesting read, and as they note – most of these companies actually don’t produce anything…

Packaging design

We’ve seen packaging made of paper before. Also in a sustainable way. But whiskey brand Bruichladdich wanted to get packaging that felt “premium” and this is it. This is one of the more talked about new packaging design examples for the premium industry. Made together with James Cropper.

Sloyd and repair

My summer was mainly spent in Sweden and the Stockholm surroundings. About one hour from Stockholm is Nyköping with one of the best museums in the country – Sörmlands museum. This year they focused on sloyd, slöjd and craft. My best sustainable finding was Oscar Larsson that made wood bowls with repair. Kind of a “kintsugi” feeling but with a new aesthetics. Repair is hot.
